THE INTRODUCTION TO NIK.

I’m a multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus of  abstract and impressionist painting. In my research, I consider the past, present, and future of a human experience while expanding on the imagery of self-portraiture and self re-discovery. My work is a process of self healing, stemming from my trauma and my journey of self acceptance as a queer human with a religious upbringing. I work through the affect of a variety of mental disorders, gender identity, and sexual orientation. This subject matter intuitively leads to works that are colorful, crude, and tinged with darkness.

I paint  to release the complex emotions that are being held within myself, a process that allows me to navigate obstacles in life that at times have felt unbearable. My work intensely focuses on color, movement, and texture to illustrate the elevated connections between myself, my emotions and the way I express them. I hope that the use of color and movement in my art practice resonates with people of all walks of life, illustrating a moment of reflection and feeling a sense of humanity.
